Pohnpei – The Pohnpei Soccer Association Kids Club (PSAKC) is proud to announce the signing of a new service contract with the Micronesia Justice Initiative (MJI) to provide free transportation for footballers aged 8 to 14 to and from training at the Kolonia Track and Field, every Tuesday and Thursday.
Starting Tuesday 18 August, children from the Chinatown and Ohmine areas of Kolonia town will be picked up and safely driven to training, and returned home once the session ends — removing one of the biggest barriers that has kept many young athletes from taking part in organized sport: the simple challenge of getting there.
How It Works
Transportation will be provided by church minister Robinson Jack, a trusted member of the community, who will run the following pick-up route:
5:10 PM — ABC Bakery
5:20 PM — Island Palm parking
From there, children will be driven directly to the track and field for training, and returned to the same pick-up points once training concludes.
This new service is made possible thanks to the generous contribution of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), administered by the Canadian Embassy in Manila, as part of PSAKC’s ongoing “Kick Forward: Girls in the Game” project.
PSAKC is deeply proud to launch this innovative service — the first of its kind in Kolonia — and is committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their family’s means or access to transportation, has the chance to play, grow, and belong.
A Word from PSAKC
Other organizations who should understand the importance of grassroot sport, have made promises before — and did not keep them. Yet here we are, resilient no matter what, offering these children a chance that many otherwise would never have had: the chance to develop into the inclusive, community-loving people they deserve to become.
Thank you, Canada, for believing in us and in these children. You promised, and you maintained.
We would also like to thank the US Army Oceania Engagement Team (OET), the Kolonia Town mayor Biza, senator Joab, PDoE director Etse, the Pohnpei Sport Commission, and the school principals for the full support of our many incoming initiatives.
