Republic of Palau — The Honorable Stevenson A. Joseph, Governor of Pohnpei State, joined His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), in high-level bilateral discussions with His Excellency Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, in Koror today. The meeting took place ahead of the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIF).

Governor Joseph participated in the summit as a special guest of President Simina and in his capacity as Chair of the 28th Micronesian Islands Forum. His presence underscored Pohnpei’s pivotal role in shaping regional diplomatic dialogue and strengthening leadership across the Pacific.

A major milestone of the engagement was the formal handover of the FSM Government’s $200,000 contribution to the Government of Palau, which serves as the Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) Secretariat. The contribution was officially presented by the Honorable Ricky Cantero on behalf of the FSM Government. Originally announced during the 28th MIF, these funds will support the recruitment of an MIF Secretary-General to oversee Secretariat operations and streamline coordination among Micronesian governments.

During the sessions, leaders focused on presenting a unified Pacific position to ensure the PIF Leaders Meeting addresses issues that directly impact local communities. The meeting reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the FSM, Pohnpei State, and the Republic of Palau, highlighting a shared commitment to advancing subregional stability and sustainable growth.
