PALIKIR, Pohnpei — FSM Congress approved acceptance of a $16.2 million U.S. Federal Aviation Administration grant for rehabilitation of Kosrae International Airport’s runway on September 23.
Congress’s official resolutions register records adoption of Congressional Resolution 24-178, approving the grant and its terms and conditions for the project identified as “Rehabilitate Kosrae Runway 05/23.”
The approval comes as the national Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure has been conducting procurement for runway rehabilitation work in Kosrae.
The department’s website lists a second construction package posted for bidding on July 2, with bids scheduled to close on July 29. It also lists a separate invitation to supply hot-mix asphalt in Kosrae, posted August 13, with an October 21 closing date.
Those notices document procurement activity, but the information reviewed does not establish which contracts the newly accepted grant will finance or whether a construction contract has been awarded.
The resolutions register does not specify a construction start date, completion timetable, or arrangements for maintaining airport operations during the work.
