PALIKIR, Pohnpei — President Wesley W. Simina met with Tatiana A. Proskuryakova, Regional Division Director of the World Bank for the Pacific Islands, to discuss the Federated States of Micronesia’s development priorities and opportunities to further strengthen the FSM–World Bank partnership.
President Simina expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued support for FSM, particularly in areas including energy, infrastructure, digital development, resilience, human capacity, and sustainable economic development. The President also discussed the FSM’s priorities under IDA21 and the country’s transition toward blended financing.
Following the meeting, President Simina and Director Proskuryakova attended a handover ceremony at PICS for vocational equipment provided through the World Bank supported Skills and Employability Enhancement (SEE) Project.
The equipment will support Career and Technical Education at PICS, Nanpei Memorial High School, and Madolenihmw High School, where students are beginning a new four-year progressive CTE model.
“The equipment we are handing over today represents something much greater than the equipment themselves – an investment in the skills, capabilities, and future of our young people,” President Simina said.
The President emphasized that strengthening technical and vocational education is an important investment in FSM’s human capacity and long-term development.
President Simina thanked the World Bank for its continued partnership and expressed his commitment to continued collaboration to advance sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development and expand opportunities for young people across the FSM.
