Yap — Yap State officials are working with election board members in Guam to address voter concerns and provide registration and absentee ballot assistance ahead of the November 3 election.

According to a Facebook post from the Yap State Government, representatives of the 11th Yap State Legislature, the State Attorney General, and the Election Commissioner participated in several virtual meetings with election board members in Guam to discuss election procedures, voter eligibility requirements, and concerns raised by Yapese citizens living there.

The meetings were intended to clarify voting requirements and help ensure that eligible voters residing outside Yap have the information and assistance necessary to participate in the election.

In addition to the virtual discussions, election officials are providing in-person assistance in Guam for new voter registrations, re-registrations, and absentee ballot requests.

Students from Yap who are currently attending educational institutions in Guam may register as new voters. According to the government announcement, students seeking registration must present a valid FSM passport or birth certificate along with an enrollment letter from their school.

Officials are also assisting previously registered voters whose names have changed and no longer match the information recorded on the election master list.

Those voters can receive help resolving discrepancies and completing the requirements necessary to update their registration information.

Assistance is also available for voters who need guidance in requesting absentee ballots or completing related election procedures.

The Yap State Government advised individuals seeking assistance to bring their FSM passports and any other supporting documents needed for their particular circumstances.

The initiative is intended to address concerns among Yapese constituents living in Guam, where residents who remain eligible to vote in Yap elections may face additional challenges completing registration requirements and obtaining absentee ballots.

By coordinating with election board members in Guam, Yap officials hope to provide clearer information about voting procedures and reduce administrative difficulties that could prevent eligible voters from participating.

The government’s announcement did not specify the dates or locations of the in-person assistance sessions, identify registration or absentee ballot application deadlines, or indicate how many voters have received assistance.

It also did not specify which offices or positions will appear on the November 3 ballot.

The Yap State Government said the coordination between the Legislature, Attorney General, Election Commissioner, and Guam election board members is part of continuing efforts to assist eligible Yapese voters living outside the state as Election Day approaches.
