JMAS briefs Japan Ambassador on Chuuk Lagoon sunken warships project

Pohnpei – On August 27, Ambassador Kagomiya received a courtesy call from Mr. Uchiyama, the representative of the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) Chuuk office. JMAS is implementing the Oil Leak Countermeasures Project for Sunken Warships in Chuuk State. This project aims to mitigate the risk of oil leakage by thoroughly assessing the current conditions of Japanese warships sunken during World War II that have corroded and deteriorated, by efficiently and safely recovering the oil, and preventing adverse environmental impacts within Chuuk Lagoon.
