WENO, Chuuk — His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), joined United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the Chuuk State Auditorium to announce a major commitment by the United States toward Typhoon Sinlaku relief and reconstruction efforts.
During the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Landau announced an additional aid package of $96 million to support the reconstruction of public infrastructure and homes, agricultural recovery, and the rebuilding of lives and livelihoods in affected communities.
The ceremony also featured a display highlighting the response and recovery efforts undertaken following the typhoon and the progress made to date in supporting affected communities.
The announcement marks an important step toward recovery, with reconstruction activities expected to proceed following the completion of the necessary assessments, planning, and implementation arrangements.
President Simina expressed the nation’s appreciation for the assistance and the continued partnership of the United States.
“We knew that recovery would require partnership,” President Simina said. “We are deeply grateful to the United States for standing with the people of the FSM during this difficult time.”
The ceremony was attended by the Most Reverend Julio Angkel, Bishop of the Caroline Islands; the Honorable Alexander R. Narruhn, Governor of Chuuk State; the Honorable Lester Danny Mersai, Speaker of the Chuuk State House of Representatives; national and state government officials; representatives of the United States Government and the International Organization for Migration; and members of the community.
