Yap Youth Services seeks student input on future activities

Yap, FSM—The Yap State Division of Youth Services, assisted by newly arrived Australian volunteer Josh Braine, conducted an outreach activity on October 15 to gather students’ opinions about youth programs and encourage participation in upcoming events.

According to a Facebook post from the Yap State Government, the outreach took place at the park next to Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers, a popular gathering place for students waiting for their buses after school.

Division staff selected the location and the 3:00 p.m. starting time to reach young people during their normal afternoon routines rather than requiring them to attend a separate meeting or organized event.

During the outreach, staff distributed surveys asking students about youth activities and events they had particularly enjoyed. The division plans to use the responses to better understand young people’s interests and help determine what types of programs and activities to organize in the future.

The outreach also provided an opportunity for staff to introduce students to Youth Trivia Night, scheduled for October 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Small Business Development Center Conference Room.

The government said the activity was part of the division’s continuing efforts to involve young people in decisions about programs intended for them.

By collecting feedback directly from students, the division hopes to develop activities that attract greater participation, strengthen connections among young people, and support youth development throughout Yap State.

The outreach also involved Australian volunteer Josh Braine, who recently arrived in Yap and joined Division of Youth Services staff for the activity.
