YIWU CITY, CHINA — A delegation from the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, led by Pohnpei Governor Stevenson A. Joseph, took part in sessions on artificial intelligence, trade, and private-sector development during a visit to Yiwu City, China, according to a release from Pohnpei Public Information.
The visit was part of an ongoing trade promotion seminar attended by the delegation in China.
According to the release, the delegation attended lectures on the application of artificial intelligence in trade and the economy. The sessions addressed the use of AI in areas including supply chains, market analysis, and economic efficiency, and provided examples of how the technology is being used in Yiwu, a major Chinese trading center.
The delegation later visited ZT Import and Export Co. Limited, where General Manager Maggie Feng briefed members on the company’s operations and business model.
Pohnpei Public Information said the company’s use of integrated logistics and direct relationships with manufacturers provided the delegation with examples of business practices that could have applications for the FSM private sector.
The release said similar approaches could potentially help FSM businesses reduce costs and improve their competitiveness in Asian markets.
It also said exposure to the use of artificial intelligence in trade and to different business structures could help FSM entrepreneurs and private-sector representatives better understand opportunities in international markets.
