Pohnpei – The Australian Embassy recently celebrated the official opening of the FSM Division of Border Control and Maritime Surveillance’s FSM Maritime Border Control building extension and refurbishment. This marks another milestone in the enduring maritime security partnership between Australia and FSM.
Delivered through Australia’s Pacific Maritime Security Program, this important project reflects more than 36 years of cooperation and a shared commitment to maritime security, regional stability, and the protection of FSM’s maritime sovereignty. The new facility will strengthen maritime surveillance capabilities and support operations well into the future.
“This project is a tangible demonstration of Australia’s enduring commitment to our partnership with the FSM as we work together to promote peace, stability and security across our region,” said Ambassador Jenny Grant.
Together, Ambassador Jenny Grant and Department of Justice Chief of the Law Division Josephine Joseph opened the new extension and refurbishment. The event was lead by Maritime Security Advisor Lieutenant Commander, Paul Norton and Commander FSM National Police Maritime Wing, Steward Peter.
