U.S. provides two Federal Medical Stations to FSM

Kolonia, Pohnpei – The U.S. Embassy Kolonia congratulates the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) on the receipt of two Federal Medical Stations (FMS) delivered by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ASPR transferred the stations to the FSM in Pohnpei in July 2026, fulfilling a request from the FSM National Department of Health and Social Affairs (DHSA) for one 250-bed and one 50-bed station. This transfer reflects the U.S. government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness and health security across the Pacific.

FMS are pre-packaged caches of medical equipment and supplies designed to support temporary health care facilities during emergencies. Each FMS includes beds, IV poles, nursing station supplies, personal protective equipment, and other general and non-acute care items to treat patients for up to three days before resupply is needed.

The SNS has previously deployed these caches to assist communities responding to COVID-19, floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. ASPR is now making FMS available to any of the states, directly funded cities, federally recognized tribes, territories, and freely associated states supported by the SNS.

The FSM DHSA national team is managing intake and coordinating distribution of supplies across all four FSM states.
