YAP, FSM — Yap public radio station V6AI/KUTE has resumed online streaming, making its programming available over the internet to listeners in Yap, the outer islands, and elsewhere in the world, according to a release from the Yap State Government.
The service was launched September 16 and provides another means of receiving V6AI/KUTE programming while work continues to restore the station’s AM service.
According to the station’s Chief of Media and Protocol, restoring online streaming had been planned as a way to expand access to the station and provide listeners with additional options.
V6AI/KUTE previously streamed online through a partnership with the FSM Telecommunications Corporation, but that service ended several years ago after the streaming equipment became inoperable.
The new service is available through the station’s streaming website and through the Listen2MyRadio mobile application by searching for V6aikute.
“With an internet connection, anyone can listen to the station from anywhere in the world,” the Chief of Media and Protocol said.
The online stream could be particularly useful for Yapese living outside the state. The Yap Government release said it also provides another way for residents of the outer islands to receive V6AI/KUTE programming while the station works to bring its AM service back online.
V6AI/KUTE broadcasts public announcements, job vacancies, local news, and other community information.
The station also plans to expand its online presence with blog posts and public event calendars.
According to the release, V6AI/KUTE researched available streaming platforms before selecting one capable of meeting its operational requirements and handling a large number of listeners. Because the service was only recently launched, the station said it had not yet received significant listener feedback.
Listeners can access the stream through V6AI/KUTE’s online streaming page or through the Listen2MyRadio app.
