PEI LAPALAP, Pohnpei — Governor Stevenson A. Joseph and Lieutenant Governor Herolyn S. Movick attended the General Meeting for the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Micronesia Chapter, held in the Governor’s Conference Room at Pei Lapalap.

PATA Micronesia serves as a regional chapter of the global Pacific Asia Travel Association, dedicated to promoting, developing, and sustaining tourism across the Micronesian region. Bringing together government bodies and private sector leaders, the organization plays a vital role in destination marketing, capacity building, and addressing common regional economic goals.

Lieutenant Governor Herolyn S. Movick delivered opening remarks on behalf of the Pohnpei State Government, warmly welcoming delegates, regional tourism leaders, and partners to Pohnpei. During her address, she candidly addressed the core obstacle impacting regional growth.

“Micronesia’s main challenge for tourism is our remoteness, which makes transportation difficult and expensive,” Lt. Governor Movick noted. She urged all attendees to join forces in addressing these barriers, asking participants to “explore innovative solutions to enhance connectivity, making travel to and within our islands more accessible for visitors and locals alike.”

Reflecting on past efforts, Lt. Governor Movick observed that these accessibility issues are not new and have frequently been met with short-lived solutions by both government and private entities. She challenged the room to rethink historical approaches, posing the question: “How can we be more sustainable in our approach to our solutions?”

Lt. Governor Movick concluded her remarks by expressing gratitude to all participants, thanking the Chief of Tourism and the organizing team, and acknowledging everyone involved in bringing the meeting together at Pei Lapalap.
