Chuuk — Australia’s Ambassador to the FSM, Jenny Grant, reaffirmed her government’s commitment to completing repairs to the Chuuk Women’s Council office following damage caused by Typhoon Sinlaku, according to an Australian Embassy Facebook post published on October 2.
Grant met with Council President Gracelyn Poll-Serious and other members during her farewell visit to Chuuk.
Poll-Serious thanked Australia for supporting the Council’s operations during the disruption caused by the storm.
“We want to thank you Ambassador Grant and the Australian Government for your continued support of our Council’s operations, particularly during what has been a difficult period, following the damage to our office caused by Typhoon Sinlaku,” she said.
The Embassy said Grant thanked the Council for its work supporting women, families, and communities across Chuuk and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to ensuring that the office repairs were completed as soon as possible.
“Women are at heart of strong resilient communities, it has been a privilege to listen, learn and work with strong women leaders of Chuuk. I hope the Council can return back to normal operations as soon as possible,” Grant said.
Australia’s partnership with the Council includes an AUD$1.5 million multi-year arrangement supporting women’s empowerment, protection, and gender equality in the FSM.
The post did not specify the cost or scope of the office repairs, give a completion date, or explain whether the repairs are funded through that broader partnership.
