CHUUK, FSM — Australian Ambassador Jenny Grant met with Chuuk Governor Alexander Narruhn during a farewell visit as she prepares to leave the FSM at the end of October, concluding her tenure as Australia’s Ambassador to the country.

Grant thanked Narruhn for his cooperation during her tenure, while the Governor expressed appreciation for Australian support to Chuuk.

Their meeting included discussion of Australian-funded outer-island electrification projects on Etten and Piis Paneu.

“These projects are on small outer islands but will provide significant benefits to the communities of Etten and Piis Paneu, allowing students to study and families to remain connected during the night-time hours,” Narruhn said.

The meeting also covered Australian assistance following Typhoon Sinlaku, including a water and sanitation project for schools in Chuuk.

According to the Embassy, other areas of Australian support discussed during the meeting included assistance to the Chuuk Women’s Council, the Family Protection Program, and an upcoming visit by a Royal Australasian College of Surgeons surgical team.

The Embassy also pointed to recent investigative and police intelligence training facilitated by the Australian Federal Police.

Australia and Chuuk have additionally worked on efforts to reduce the risk of oil spills from World War II shipwrecks submerged in Chuuk Lagoon, according to the post.
